THE VALUATION DATE
Our Divorce Appraisals Value Marital Crypto as of the Date Your Case Requires
In a divorce, the valuation date can matter as much as the value. Depending on the state and the agreement, crypto may be valued as of the date of separation, the date the case was filed, the date of trial, or a date the spouses choose. Prices can move sharply in a week, so we confirm the date with counsel or the mediator before the work starts, and we can value more than one date when the parties disagree on which applies.
The report identifies each holding, where it was held, the market and pricing data used, and how any thin trading or lockup was handled. Both spouses and their attorneys work from the same figures, which keeps the negotiation on how to divide the holdings rather than on what they are worth.

FAQ
Crypto Divorce Appraisal Questions
Can one spouse order the appraisal, or do both need to agree?
Either spouse, their attorney, or a mediator can engage us. The report is independent whoever orders it, and the value does not change based on who pays the fee. When both sides agree to share one appraiser, a joint engagement is often the simplest path.
Is crypto bought before the marriage included?
Whether a holding is marital or separate property is a legal question for your attorney. We can value holdings as of more than one date, such as the date of marriage and the date of separation, when counsel needs that comparison.
What if crypto prices have moved a lot since we separated?
That is common. We value as of whichever date counsel specifies, and we can report values at more than one date so both sides can see the effect of the date chosen.
Do you need access to my spouse's accounts?
No. We work from the statements, wallet addresses, and records produced in the case. For most networks, public blockchain data shows the balance at a given address on a past date, so no one has to share private keys or log-ins.
